With a day off from work I went birdwatching and spotted this Bald Eagle from my car while driving in Belchertown, MA.
This is the closest I've ever seen two Hawks in a tree...the air temp at the time was 8F.
Maybe my presence was an interruption.
At the Quabbin Reservoir I was watching a Coyote sitting on the ice about a half-mile away, when a Bald Eagle dive-bombed it. Eagles and Coyotes compete for the same carrion for food, and apparently this Eagle was unhappy with a Coyote in his territory. The photo isn't too clear at this distance...the Coyote is on the left, with the Eagle just to the right having just flown past.
The Coyote appears to have gotten the message, and slinks back into the woods.
Digitally enlarged, a slightly better look at the defeated canine exiting stage left...maybe to place an order with ACME explosives.
